Many things are made simply for decoration like dolls or flower arrangements. These are great little things to do, however you might want to try out some things that you will find not only decorative, but some that will be functional as well.

Functional craft items are sold at craft fairs and given as gifts at showers. So you will find out that by going with functional crafts you will be able to make a lot of money. Also you will find that there are various crafts that you can do that are useful.  But just a word of warning you will want to make sure that whatever you decide on it will be something that you would like to have in your home or office.   That will help so you can find a project idea that you like and not waste any of your time.

There is a quote by Pablo Picasso  “Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.”  

There is so much truth to that.  Nothing in this world compares like sitting down with a brush in your hand ready to work.  When you immerse your whole soul in to your project by zoning out and just paint.  The stress just melts away.  When you are done the feeling of accomplishment is out of this world.  Its hard to describe.  But it will be a great benefit to you mentally and physically.  Also a great bonus is that you can decorate your house with your finished projects.

Rugs or Blankets

As an adult I tend to think that if an activity isn’t productive or serve a purpose.  I think I am wasting my time.  Therefore creating something else to stress about.   One activity that you will find that serves a purpose and is definitely functional is making blankets.  This activity alone will help you fill your spare time with hours of fun and also give you something in the end that you can really use.

Blankets are so comfortable and there are many different ways that you can create.  However, you will find that you can show off your creativity by just letting your mind go and be amazed at what you are capable of creating.  Again you will also find that you can build something to keep you warm at night or give as a highly cherished gift.

One method of creating blankets is quilting.  It is also one of the best ways to make a beautiful blanket and provide warmth and coziness on a cold night. If you are not already familiar with quilting.  You can begin with a simple design like a rag quilt.  They can be fun and relatively easy to make. With only a few instructions and some pieces of fabric, you will be able to create a beautiful and warm quilt.

You can also create rugs for your home to pass the time and to make something functional.  Braided rugs are fun and easy to make with a little patience. You can use them on carpet or wood floors, or as welcome mats.

Children might like to latch hook. This simple craft can be done by almost anyone, but produces nice rugs and mats. Rubber Stamping

If making rugs don’t appeal to you, you can always go with rubber-stamping. You will then be able to create a lot of functional crafts and gifts. What could be more functional than stationary and greeting cards? Instead of purchasing letterhead for your company, make it, using colorful inks and bold rubber stamps. One of the  nicest part of rubber stamping is that you can order some of  the stamps with your name and address already together so that you can make some great letterhead.  Greeting cards can be made and stamps with your logo on the back so that you can use them to send out at birthdays, but they also become an advertising tool.
